Federal Contractors Now Mandated to Use E-Verify
Thank you to our friends over at Greenberg Traurig for the heads up on this.
On June 6, 2008 President Bush issued an executive order that mandates the use of E-Verify for all federal contractors. You might recall that E-Verify (formerly known as the “Basic Pilot Program” is designed to allow employers to confirm employment eligibility and right to work status
This is an interesting development as it appears to be this administration’s first shot at dipping it’s foot in the proverbial water on this topic. While E-Verify has been out for a while, there have been a number of opportunities to mandate it for all U.S. employers. This has not happened, but this executive order might be a first step in that direction.
